After winning 2 art awards (Haringey Arts Council 6th Open Exhibition) and then the (Apthorp fund for young artist) Summer 2000 was the year that Carleen De Sözer realized that she could make a living from selling her art to the public.
In the summer of 2000 Carleen landed smack bang in the heart of busy Portobello Market, with a backpack full of hand painted pictures on canvas boards. Her Afro wearing characters soon became her trademark, she put these cool characters onto T-shirts and just about anything else you could wear. Carleen quickly became a well-known fixture to Portobello Market switching constantly between fashion and art.
Widely regarded as one of London’s most skilled and diverse aerosol and airbrush artists. Hailing from London this gritty artist has found a place on the London art scene with her highly appealing Afrocentric, Afrofuturistic and airbrushed pieces including her off beat ganja smoking character Ms SIN. Carleen’s distinctive style of street art can be seen all across London.
Over the last 18 years Carleen has been consistent in supplying art in many formats, from graphic design and tattooing to airbrushing, from logos to CD covers, from canvas to walls, from t shirt designs to teaching her talent to adults and the youth...it's fair to say that Carleen loves her job. Ask her what she does for a living and she'll comfortable state "I supply art for a living".
